Acidophilus and Bifidum

While humans tend to think of most bacteria as illness-causing microbes that must be eradicated at any cost, there are some friendly bacteria it is actually best to have live inside the digestive tract. Two examples of these beneficial bacteria in healthy people are acidophilus and bifidum, which can aid digestion.

More than 400 different kinds of bacteria live in our gastrointestinal tract. In addition to helping us absorb food and minerals, they also aid in the manufacture of B vitamins and amino acids, and produce lactase and other antibacterial substances

When the digestive tract is healthy, the growth of good bacteria helps to crowd out disease-causing bacteria and make conditions unfavorable for their growth.

In addition to providing nutritional benefits that can aid digestion, acidophilus and bifidum help the body:

  • keep the intestines clean
  • eliminate bad breath, flatulence and constipation
  • eliminate excessive body odor
  • improve the complexion
  • relieve fatigue and red eyes
  • guard against intestinal upsets when on holiday
  • reverse the intestinal damage caused by antibiotics

Anyone at any age will find acidophilus culture to be a foundation for building better health.
