Potassium

Important mineral for healthy nervous system and regular heart rhythm. Helps prevent stroke, aids in proper muscle contraction, works with sodium to control body’s water balance. Important for chemical reactions within cells and aids in maintaining stable blood pressure and in transmitting electro-chemical impulses. Also regulates transfer of nutrients through cell membranes. Function of potassium shown to decrease with age, which may account for some of circulatory damage, lethargy and weakness experienced by older people.
